Your weather just got better.

Boating

Lower and Upper Prior Lake boast 1400 acres of boating. With Mystic Lake casinos nearby and the Twin Cities just out of earshot, Prior Lake is a popular and spacious boating paradise.

Fishing

Lower Lake offers better fishing, overall. Clearer water and prominent structures abound. Plenty of deep weed-lines, rock piles, islands, points, bays, deep-water breaks and sunken islands to go around.

Largemouth Bass are the trophy fish in Prior. In fact, tournaments are held here regularly. And they need to pull in a 4-pounder, just to rank!

The best early summer locations are the points, outside weedlines, the sunken islands and the docks next to deeper weeds. Throughout the season, the best spots are just west of Candy Cove, the first Bay east of Sand Point Beach, Frost Point (around the islands) and the sunken islands marked with buoys.

Nick Pushcar, a staffer at Prior Lake Bait and Tackle suggests using a tube jig on the deep weedlines. Or, try skipping a dark green plastic frog across the top of the weeds. Another popular lure is a white 3/8-oz Chatterbait - which combines the action of the crankbait, spinnerbait and jig into one lure.

Walleyes are stocked in Prior but are not as plentiful. You can find them early in the year, with a bit of work. Try a chartreuse, orange jig and leech. Work the rocky areas in the 18- to 22-foot depth between Sand Point and Martinson Island. Morning and evening will be more productive.

Northern Pike are plentiful and large. Over half are 28 inches and up. Koep's Bay is the best location year-round for pike.

And if you’re feeling hungry when the fish stop feeding, motor over to Captain Jack's Restaurant on the southeast side of Upper Lake!
