HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It’s a new year; a time for new beginnings, new adventures, new memories to be made, and new boating excursions.  After a successful 2013 Your Boat Club is looking forward to a fun and exciting 2014 season.

POSITIVE CHANGES FOR 2014

This winter seems to be unbearably cold. Earlier this month Minnesota experienced the coldest temperature since 1996!  Since we cannot go boating, we spend our long, cold, wintery days working on things that will help to improve the YBC experience for our members.  We are developing a Mobile Application that will make it even easier to view boat availability and make reservations from your mobile phone.  We are also planning to make a major change to how our gas billing system works that will make it more convenient for Members and Authorized Users to split gas payments.  To help increase the number of times that our Members can get out to enjoy the water, we plan to make some minor tweaks to the Online Reservation System and how we handle the turn times.

2014 MINNEAPOLIS BOAT SHOW COMING SOON!

Boat Show 2014

The Minneapolis Boat Show is just around the corner.  January 30 through February 2 Your Boat Club will be at the Minneapolis Convention Center to talk with you about your membership experiences and answer any questions you have about the club.  We are more excited for this year’s event than ever before!  Along with the great food, beverages and boats we enjoy each year, there will be many new features in 2014. WHY ATTEND?
With the upper Midwest’s best selection of new boats and hundreds of booths showcasing the very latest in engines, electronics, fishing gear and accessories, there’s no better place to get a head start on a summer full of fun! From canoes to cruisers, from pontoons to personal watercraft there are boats for every lifestyle, activity and budget. The 4-day event is also the best time to get the 411 on all YBC memberships, offering you a chance to compare the costs and hassles of buying a boat versus a boat club membership at one time, under one roof!

WHAT’S NEW?
There are plenty of new features and activities happening at this year’s boat show. Here is a sneak peak at some we are mostly looking forward to.

Visit the “Wings Financial Boardwalk” Experience
Escape the winter doldrums and stroll the Wings Financial Boardwalk at the Show! Browse boats and marine equipment docked seaside, or relax and order something to eat from Seven Sushi & Steakhouse. Entertainment includes rides and carnival games for the kids. Thursday–Saturday evenings you can listen to fantastic boating music from Jambo Joe Bones. Don’t miss this delightful oasis!

Meet Capt. Tyler McLaughlin from National Geographic Channel’s hit TV Show Wicked Tuna

Meet the 24-year old mariner who leads the “new kids” on the harbor—a three-man crew from New Hampshire aboard the Pinwheel. Tyler’s privileged background (he attended prep school where he met his first mate Alex) enabled him to afford his own boat at a young age. But he’s no googan. This kid can fish. Last season the Pinwheel crew brought in the most fish and was ranked the favorite boat and crew among fans!

See the ALL-NEW Miss GEICO Racing Boat

Miss Geico

The six-time World Champion Miss GEICO Racing Team is proud to introduce the newest and latest Miss GEICO offshore racing boat.  The new Miss GEICO is a 50-ft. Victory catamaran made of carbon/kevlar. At approximately 11,000 pounds, she is almost 1,500 pounds lighter than her predecessor and is equal in length. Powered by 1075 Mercury racing engines, she currently has a top speed of 170mph. Off-season plans include replacing these engines with a set of 1500 HP piston racing engines which will enable Miss GEICO to reach a top speed in excess of 200 mph!

Anchors & Ales—A Night of Craft Beer Sampling
Attend the show on Friday, January 31st beginning at 5:00p.m. and purchase your Anchors & Ales ticket for $20 (includes adult show admission) to receive your limited edition tasting glass, tasting tickets and sample eight beers from participating craft breweries.  Participating breweries include Bad Weather, Big Wood, Deschutes, Excelsior Brewing, Fulton, Lift Bridge Brewing, Rush River and Schell’s. Must be 21 years of age or older to participate.

Other activities include a Paddlefest, an Antique & Classic Boat Display, a chance to meet Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer, and more.  For a full list of new features CLICK HERE!

FUN WINTER ACTIVITIES ON YBC LAKES

Ice Fishing Tourny

Just because you can’t go boating during the long, cold winter months, that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the beautiful lakes.  Whether you enjoy snowmobiling, ice skating, boot hockey, ice fishing, or simply a nice stroll during a breathtaking sunset or sunrise, YBC lakes offer fun activities all winter long for everyone in the family to enjoy.

ICE FISHING – A WINTER FAVORITE

Welcome Ice Fishermen

Some people thrive on fishing.  During summer they’re at the docks at 7:45 a.m. waiting for the YBC staff to get them out on the water.  Come winter they’re mapping out their calendars based on various ice fishing tournaments throughout the Midwest.  They have an ice fishing house out on their favorite lake the hour it’s safe.  Sometimes they even camp out for days patiently awaiting their flag popups.  With Minnesota being one of the greatest states in the U.S. for ice fishing, our lakes host some pretty darn good ice fishing tournaments including the largest fishing contest in the world – The Brainerd Jaycees $150,000 Ice Fishing Extravaganza!  Read more below for a guide to this contest and a few more of our favorites!

THE BRAINERD JAYCEES $150,000 ICE FISHING EXTRAVAGANZA – SATURDAY, JANUARY 25TH
In the early 1990s the Brainerd Jaycees had a desire to develop a signature project—a project that would rally members, raise money for local charities, and provide avenues for individual growth, personal development, and leadership. With the first contest being held in January 1991, it is certain the founders never expected this event would become the world’s largest ice fishing contest and put Brainerd, MN, on the map with a winter event that generates over $1-million in revenue for area businesses and over $150,000 for area charities annually.

MEMBERSHIP AVAILABILITY

With the Minneapolis Boat Show coming up at the end of the month, our membership availability will be greatly reduced come February.  If you have not yet renewed your membership for the upcoming season we highly recommend doing so sooner than later.  We greatly appreciate your continued business and look forward to being of service again in 2014!

As you can see from the table below, we are already sold out of a fair number of memberships and are approaching capacity at others.  Being able to add boats at some locations has helped, but these will go very quickly as they did last year.  As our business grows and more and more existing Members continue to renew, it seems like every year we sell out sooner than we did the year before.  Based upon our anticipated boat totals for 2014, we will most likely sell out of many of our memberships on the west side of town by the Boat Show in January.

If you are a Member who did not renew your membership and were hoping to renew in the Spring, please make sure you call us and let us know.  Our renewal rate was very strong and we are strictly limited by the number of boats that we can run at the marinas.  So when these are gone the waiting list will begin.  We greatly apologize if the membership you were most interested in is already sold out for the season.  Unfortunately we cannot hold memberships.  Please make sure you call us and get on the waiting list now or consider another membership option.  Of particular note, the Pier 2 Memberships at Minnetonka that did not renew have already been filled by people that were on the waiting list, and we still have more people left that we can’t even add.  The soonest we will have Pier 2 Memberships available on Minnetonka is now 2015.

If you have a friend or co-worker that you think would enjoy our service, please make sure you refer them to our website or have them call the office at 612.208.1800.  If they enroll you will receive a $200 gas credit!
