FAQs

How Much Gas Will I Use?

Interesting question, and one easily estimated with some simple math! Boats, unlike cars, use their fuel based on the ebb and flow of the vessel and its cargo because their “tires” are not on the road but rather floating and running through water.

A good rule of thumb is at full throttle, a boat can use up to 10% of its horsepower in one hour. So, for example, a 150 HP boat will use 15 gallons in an hour at full throttle.

Of course, this will differ based on your boat capacity of people and luggage, with fuel usage increasing along with passengers and luggage like coolers.

It’s best to estimate 10% of horsepower per hour used so as not to be left on shore- or out in the water!

Quick tip: back off on the throttle a tad to double your fuel efficiency! Wind, waves, load, and trim all factor into your gas consumption. Keeping an eye on this along with the 10/HP rule will keep you cruising.

I’ve never driven a boat before. Can I still rent?

Yes! As long as you comply with state-specific guidelines, have a valid driver’s license, and are 21 years of age or older, YBC will rent you a boat. If you’ve never driven a boat before, let the dock staff know so they can go over everything you need to know. Don’t be intimidated - boating can be easy as long as you take it slow, follow the rules, and heed our advice!

What Insurance is Included?

In the event of an incident, you are responsible for up to $5,000 of damage to the vessel. Your Boat Club offers a Reduced Deductible Fee Program (RDF) for $25/reservation that lowers your liability to $1,000/incident. For more specific information, please refer to the Rental Agreement.
